4 Famous People Who Endorse Psilocybin - Archived
Microdosing magic mushrooms has gotten more and more popular over the years, and celebrities have been using them for even longer, whether it be for fun, artistic inspiration, introspection, or relief from anxiety or depression.
Here are some of the most well-known mushroom users and how psilocybin affects their lives and art.
Seth Rogen
Seth Rogen has been a weed activist for many years, and he’s also branched out into psychedelic mushrooms. He says he had his first experience with magic shrooms when he was only a teenager.
The Superbad star shared an iconic magic shrooms story on Jimmy Kimmel.
When he was 18, he went to Amsterdam with a friend. They took “a bunch of mushrooms” and packed a picnic lunch to eat in a park. However, they soon left because Rogen’s stomach was upset, and his friend was becoming paranoid.
Rogen and his friend wandered to a nearby train station while they were still “fully tripping,” he told Kimmel. That’s when they randomly bought tickets to Paris.
The pair arrived in Paris in the middle of the night, just when they were beginning to sober up. “I remember thinking, ‘I took so many drugs I ended up in another country,” Rogen told Kimmel.
While he was scouting filming locations for his movie Knocked Up, he had an experience on shrooms that every tripper can only dream of.
Rogen said:
“As responsible producers, we thought the only appropriate way to really know which one would be the best would be to do shrooms for two days straight and see every single Cirque du Soleil show that was on The Strip at the time, which we did. It was amazing.”
He said a water-themed show made him worried about the safety of the performance, and he “kept trying to get them to stop.”
Seth Rogen has been a champion of legalizing important drugs, and you can always depend on him for a story about magic mushrooms!
Kristen Bell
Actress Kristen Bell has only positive things to say about her first experience with magic shrooms. She read Michael Pollan’s book How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence and became extremely interested in trying them.
The Veronica Mars and The Good Place star decided to take her first trip for her birthday with her husband, ex-drug addict Dax Shepherd, watching over her. She described her experience on the podcast HypochondriActor:
“I said, ‘I really would like to experience this. And I don’t want to, I’m not going to party with it, but I want to know what this feels like. And I want to talk while I’m doing it, and I want you to talk to me.’ And he took me on a walk around the neighborhood and it was so lovely.”
She had some wacky experiences with psilocybin during that session as well:
“I had gone to the bathroom, I went to pee and I came downstairs wide-eyed and I said, ‘Dax, I had to pee. I felt the sensation of having to pee and all of a sudden this beautiful lady’ — and I was pointing to my legs — ‘picked me up. She walked me down the hallway. She sat me down on the toilet. She rolled a little roll of toilet paper for me and just put it on my lap till I was done peeing. Then she wiped me. Then she flushed the toilet and now I’m back out here.’ ”
“But in my head, I had separated this body that had done so much good in my life, that has taken me through happiness and pain and workouts and laziness that I was just like, couldn’t stop touching my legs going, ‘You’re so strong. You’re so elegant.’ “
Bell overwhelmingly enjoyed her experience and said magic shrooms were something she wanted to explore for her anxiety and depression as well.
Mike Tyson
Magic mushrooms have changed Mike Tyson’s life. Before he took psilocybin shrooms for the first time, he was battling an abusive voice in his head that led him to consider completing suicide.
“Once I got introduced to shrooms…my whole life changed,” he told Reuters. “It’s scary to even say that. To think where I was—almost suicidal—to this now. Isn’t life a trip, man? It’s amazing medicine, and people don’t look at it from that perspective.”
Tyson also said:
“If you put 10 people in a room that don’t like each other and give them some psychedelics, they’ll be taking pictures with each other. Put 10 people in a room who don’t like each other and give them some liquor, and they’ll be shooting everybody. That’s real talk.”
If you’ve ever tried microdosing or taking larger doses of shrooms, you can probably relate to his experiences. Tyson wants magic mushrooms to be legal for everyone to grow from and enjoy.
Kacey Musgraves
Country singer Kacey Musgraves has had strong, profound experiences with magic shrooms, and she wants to advocate for their legalization.
Musgraves recently took a seven-hour mushroom trip guided by a professional. She told Elle that she had a vision of her nine-year-old self, which was the age she started performing music in public. She revealed that she had a huge amount of compassion for the young girl.
She said that the main takeaway from her trip was that she needed to make “less time for bullshit,” and “we’re not here for very long.”
Musgraves also found artistic inspiration during her experience. In an interview with Apple Music, she said:
“It was completely life-changing in so many ways, but it also triggered this whole big bang of not only the album but the song Star-Crossed and the concept, you know, me looking into the structure of tragedies themselves as an art form throughout time.”
